Before you say “Orthoclase, you need to clean your lens! Look at all those lines!” look closer. About 11 o’clock on the large outer leaves of the rosette. There, see it? The source of the lines — a little brown spider.
The funny thing is, I didn’t see it when I was taking the pic — I was just enamored of the sun shining on the web.

After about 4 weeks of sitting on the nest, the mourning doves seem to have managed to procreate:

It was hard going for a while there, with storms and cold and rain all attempting to interrupt the process. At least, the weather interrupted my process, since I didn’t get any pictures in between the first days of nesting and the last.
And if you ever wanted to know what a baby pigeon looks like, well, it looks more-or-less just like an adult, only smaller:

The nest sits empty these days. Though it seems like a second clutch might be in the offing (based on certain recently espied, er, behaviors.)

Poppies!

Of course, this picture doesn’t really do justice to the glow these double poppies have in front of the dark green fir. But it’ll do.

I ain’t no Karl Blossfeldt, but I think this ostrich fern pic is pretty cool
