It’s 2008, do you know where your *** are?

I’m not a person to make New Year Resolutions. Frankly, I’m not one to resolve much at all. I have a tendency to obsess about something for a while, and then forget it completely when I’m done with it. I don’t review where I’ve been, I don’t set goals, I don’t have a list of things I’d like to do before I die. I have a list of stuff I’d like to do (like “clean the garage”), but I don’t have a timetable or plan of action.

Seems pretty funny coming from somebody who’s been an engineer, a project manager and has an MBA — all fields that imply a tendency to analysis and careful attention to plans. But then, I never was very good at being an engineer, though I was successful and promoted, etc. My skills tend more towards synthesis and optimization (not the kind that IOEs do — though I’m pretty good at factory layout, just the kind that lazy people do).

However, I’m looking forward to this year, of being able to start 2008 on a not-sad note, and knowing that this year will be more structured, more fun, and more exhilarating than our years have been for a while. This will be a busy year for us, and I think it will be good-busy.

Here’s hoping that all of our 2008s are better than we could ever have imagined.
