Son1 posts on the recent NYT mac-and-cheese recipes, and their “meta-review” at Slate,1 which reminds me….
I made the “creamy” one last week. Plagioclase and his mother really liked it, but I think I prefer boxed. Seriously!
I used some sort of packaged “extra-sharp cheddar” and since I had to use it up, heavy cream instead of milk. It went together really easily, but it glopped into the casserole — it didn’t “pour” like the recipe suggested it do. And once it was baked (and yes, the macaroni did get cooked), it was crusty, not creamy. As someone who has never made mac & cheese from scratch, I was sorely disappointed. It was glumpy, sour-tasting, and left puddle of oil on the bottom of the dish.
Maybe I’ll try a “traditional” recipe next time. Or maybe go back to boxed…
[1] I would have left a comment there, but I can’t remember my Bloggerâ„¢ login!

I’m having a weird problem with my RSS feeds, and I can’t figure out what’s going on. I upgraded to OS X 10.4.4, and got Safari 2.0.3, and now *only* the feeds I get from the server where feldsparring is hosted are messed up (as in extra characters showing up in post titles, and stuff like that). I don’t know if it’s my upgrade, or if it’s the server or what…
Have you seen any oddness — assuming you get feldsparring as RSS?

I’ve been moderately worry-free for about a dozen days now. The feeling of absolute serenity I had is gone of course, subsumed by some concerns about the details of dealing with Dad’s estate, but in general my mood has been pretty light.
But then yesterday I got a call from my mom. “Can you drive me next week? My doctor wants me to have a test…”
Crap.

Who’s got the comment?
I’ve put in a plugin to auto-close comments after a few weeks, as I have been getting spamments on really really old posts.
I’m not quite sure how it works, though, ’cause after I activated it, the comments were still open on the older posts. Perhaps I need to actually post something?
[edit: yup -- it fires when I publish or edit a post]
