2004 Wrongo Dongo

As a christmas present to ourselves, Plagioclase and I bought a couple of mixed cases of cheap inexpensive wine. (Expensive wine we buy by the bottle.)

But of course, we didn’t wait for christmas to “open” our prezzie. Tonight’s offering: 2004 Wrongo Dongo, a Spanish red from D.O. Jumilla ($7.99).

From the label:

… rich fruit … luscious aromas of sweet and exotic spices … hold its own with the heartiest of roasts, steaks and barbeque, yet forward fruit flavor lends the wine to lighter dishes…

From my tastebuds:

Doesn’t really hold up to stinky cheese. Has a kind of acetone undertone. Not particularly rich or strong.

Plagioclase’s rating: B-
Orthoclase’s rating: C-

[update: having looked up D.O. Jumilla, I'm wishing this wine had been of the heavier variety -- it is too medium and doesn't have a lot of character.]
